Court rules today on Oyo deputy governor’s impeachment

Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan will today give judgment on the impeachment suit against Deputy Governor Rauf Olaniyan.

The case was initially slated for judgment on July 26, but the Nation gathered that it was brought forward and lawyers to the parties notified of the development.

It could not be confirmed why the judgment date was changed, but a source said the decision could be due to the urgency of the case, while another said since the last hearing, the judge had been under intense pressure to deliver judgment as early as possible.

Another source hinted that since the last adjournment, Chief Judge, Muntar Abimbola, had been urged to constitute an impeachment panel, as directed by the Assembly, in spite of the pending suit.

The House of Assembly, at the last plenary on July 6, directed the Chief Judge to set up a seven-man panel to investigate Olaniyan over allegations of gross misconduct
